BBC Wrong About Mobile Broadband Speeds

Written 15 years ago by Mike Cardwell

I just read this article from the BBC about mobile broadband speeds. The table of figures annoyed me because it’s completely wrong and completely useless.

Apparently, Three come in second with an average of 1.2Mb/sec, whilst T-Mobile come in last with an average of 0.9Mb/sec. They share the same bloody 3G network!

Also, they completely ignore latency which is far more important than overall speed. I’d rather have a low latency 0.5Mb connection than a high latency 10Mb connection any day. I’ve used 3G on O2, Orange and T-Mobile, and T-Mobile blows both of them away, yet that table gives joe public the impression that T-Mobile has the worse data network
